Manhattan, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Shane Southwell scored 21 points and handed out five assists as the Kansas State Wildcats defeated the George Washington Colonials, 72-55, in non-conference action at Bramlage Coliseum.
Also scoring in double figures for the Wildcats (10-3) were Marcus Foster and Thomas Gipson with 15 and 12 points, respectively, the latter also pulled down a team-best eight rebounds as the team's win streak extended to eight straight.
The Colonials (11-2) were paced by Kethan Savage who tallied 14 points, followed by Maurice Creek with 13 as the squad had a six-game win streak snapped. Isaiah Armwood cleared a game-high 10 rebounds, but finished with only five points as he shot 1-of-7 from the floor.
Kansas State shot only 7-of-12 at the free-throw line in the first half, but made up for it with 55.2 percent accuracy from the floor overall in order to claim a 43-30 advantage at the break.
After converting 48.0 percent from the field through the first 20 minutes of action, George Washington was held to just five field goals in the second half, including 1-of-9 beyond the arc, en route to the 17-point road loss.
The Wildcats overcame a dismal 10-of-21 showing at the charity stripe by holding the visitors to only 34.0 percent from the floor and 3-of-15 shooting on the perimeter.
