NCAA Game Summary - Illinois State at Stanford

Stanford, CA (Sports Network) - Behind a career-high 29 points from Aaron Bright, the third-seeded Stanford Cardinal defeated the seventh-seeded Illinois State Redbirds 92-88 in overtime in the second round of the National Invitation Tournament at Maples Pavilion.
Bright shot 6-of-7 from three-point range and also dished out six assists for Stanford (23-11). Chasson Randle added 19 points and Dwight Powell netted 18 for the Cardinal.
For Illinois State (21-13), Nic Moore scored 25 points, while Tyler Brown netted 23 points and Jackie Carmichael tallied a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
Stanford shot an impressive 53.6 percent from the field in the first half to take a 41-38 lead into the break. Illinois State connected on just 37.5 percent of its field goals in the opening stanza, but it was able to keep the game close by hitting seven three-pointers and by going 7-of-9 from the free- throw line.
The Redbirds opened the second half by hitting nine of its first ten field goal attempts, and they held a 71-60 lead with 9:01 left in regulation. The Cardinal then caught fire, ripping off a 14-3 run to tie the game 74-74 with 5:14 remaining. After the teams exchanged leads, a pair of Brown free- throws for Illinois State knotted the score up again at 78-78 with 1:05 to go. Stanford had a chance to win the game in regulation, but a Randle three- pointer at the buzzer did not fall and the game went to overtime.
After the teams traded baskets early on in the extra frame, a Randle three- pointer at the 1:17 mark in overtime gave the Cardinal the lead for good.
Stanford advances to play sixth-seeded Nevada in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
