Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Anthony Ireland scored 26 points to lead the Loyola Marymount Lions over the Cal State Fullerton Titans 88-79 in the first round of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament at Albert Gersten Pavilion.
Drew Viney finished with 19 points and eight rebounds, LaRon Armstead put in 16 and Ashley Hamilton had 13 points and was a rebound short of a double-double for Loyola Marymount (20-12) which will play Weber State on Saturday in the second round.
D.J. Seeley had a game high 32 points and also pulled down eight rebounds for Cal State Fullerton (21-10). Kwame Vaughn finished with 21 points, Orane Chin had 10 while Sedric Martin contributed 11 rebounds off the bench.
Loyola Marymount shot just a percentage point better than Cal State Fullerton in the first half by connecting on 40.0 percent of its shots to 39.0 percent by the Titans. The Lions also outscored the Titans 18-4 from the free throw line to take a 45-41 lead into the break.
The gap widened in the second half with Loyola Marymount connecting on 44.8 percent of it's shots in the second half while the Titans fell to just 31.4 percent .
The Titans outscored the Lions 21-7 on second chance points and 27-18 from three point range in the contest while also holding a 48-41 edge on the boards. The Lions doubled the Titans efforts from the free throw line by a 32-16 margin.
