Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Chris Fouch came off the bench to lead four players in double figures with a game-high 19 points as Drexel defeated UCF, 81-56, in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
Frantz Massenat converted all three of his three-point tries as he tallied 18 points and also handed out a game-high 14 assists for the third-seeded Dragons (28-6) in the easy victory. Derrick Thomas and Goran Pantovic contributed 10 points apiece as well.
The sixth-seeded Knights (22-11) were paced by Keith Clanton as the only player in double figures with 12 points on a mere 4-of-13 shooting from the floor.
Drexel scored the first points of the night and never looked back, hitting on 53.6 percent from the floor in the first half, including 7-of-12 behind the three-point line, in order to post a 37-24 advantage at the break.
In the second half the defense by the hosts held UCF to just 1-of-6 shooting beyond the arc and watched the Knights make a mere 7-of-14 at the free-throw line as Drexel cruised to the 25-point win.
The Dragons, who are now set to contend against seventh-seeded Northern Iowa in the second round, have established a new single-season record for victories.
