Fort Worth, TX (Sports Network) - Craig Williams and Amric Fields each scored 15 points to lead the TCU Horned Frogs over the Milwaukee Panthers, 83-73, in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
For the Horned Frogs (18-14), Hank Thorns added 13 points, J.R. Cadot and Garlon Green each finished with 11 points and Nate Butler chipped in 10 points. The Horned Frogs now advance to the quarterfinal round next Monday, though their opponent has yet to be determined.
Tony Meier led the Panthers (20-14) with 18 points, while James Haarsma finished with 17 points and Kaylon Williams posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
TCU hit on 43.3 percent of its field goals in the first half. They also held Milwaukee to just 37.5 percent shooting, as the Horned Frogs took a 38-30 lead into intermission.
After the break, TCU came out hot, connecting on 58.3 percent of its attempts from the field, including 6-of-9 from three-point range. Milwaukee improved from its first half performance, making 45.7 percent of its field goals, including 5-of-14 from long range. TCU never trailed in the contest.
TCU outscored Milwaukee 19-9 at the free-throw line. Milwaukee had the advantage on points in the paint, 40-26.
