Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Noah Hartsock scored 19 points and sunk two free throws to seal a 73-68 win for the third-seeded BYU Cougars over the sixth-seeded San Diego Toreros in the quarterfinals of the West Coast Conference Tournament at Orleans Arena.
Brandon Davies netted 16 points, Brock Zylstra put in 12 and Charles Abouo chipped in 11 for BYU (25-7) which will play No. 2 seed Gonzaga in tomorrow's semifinals.
San Diego (13-18) was paced by Dennis Kramer who scored 17 points and was a rebound short of a double-double while Christopher Anderson added 14 points and Chris Manresa finished with 13 points before fouling out.
Each team shot an even 50.0 percent from the floor in the first half sending the game into the locker room deadlocked at 34-34.
At several times in the second half BYU looked like it might pull away but each time San Diego clawed it's way back. Matt Carlino nailed a three with 12:01 remaining to give the Cougars a 57-50 lead which the Torero's responded to with five quick points to trim the Cougars lead to only two, 57-55. The Cougars then ripped off an 11-4 run and led 68-59 with 5:14 left on the clock but San Diego stormed back and trailed by only three, 71-68, and had possession with 34 seconds left. Kramer then missed two three-point attempts and Hartsock knocked down two free throws after collecting the rebound to put the game out of reach.
BYU shot at a 54.7 percent clip in the game including 7-of-15 from three point range while San Diego finished at 48.1 percent and 6-of-22 from beyond the arc.
