Final Score: Oregon State 69, Washington State 64
Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Devon Collier scored 19 points and Oregon State pulled away for a 69-64 win over Washington State in the first round of the Pac-12 Tournament on Wednesday.
The ninth-seeded Beavers (18-13) got 15 points from Joe Burton and 13 from Ahmad Starks and moved on to face No. 1 seed Washington in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
Brock Motum had 18 points to lead Washington State (15-16) while Marcus Capers scored 14 and Reggie Moore added 10.
The eighth-seeded Cougars rallied after falling behind by 16 points early in the first half, using a 24-4 run to take a 32-30 lead on Collier's layup inside four minutes.
They led 39-38 at halftime and the game remained closed until Oregon State pulled away down the stretch.
The Beavers, who earned just their second Pac-12 Tournament win in the last six years, took the lead for good on two Collier free throws that made it 62-60.
Burton provided the dagger with under a minute to go: a layup after Roberto Nelson slashed into the lane and found him under the basket, giving Oregon State a 66-61 lead.
Washington State couldn't make threes down the stretch and the Beavers held on with free throws, avenging two losses to the Cougars in the regular season.
The Beavers' win moved the No. 9 seed in the Pac-12 Tournament to 6-5 all-time against the No. 8 seed. Oregon State improved to 7-12 in the tournament and Washington State fell to 5-13.
