Manhattan, NY (Sports Network) - Kyle Casey scored 19 points as the Harvard Crimson outlasted the Columbia Lions to pick up a 77-70 overtime victory in an Ivy League thriller at Levien Gymnasium.
Keith Wright finished with 18 points and eight rebounds as Harvard (25-4, 11-2 Ivy) clinched at least a share of the Ivy League Title. Oliver McNally added 12 points while Brandyn Curry dished out eight assists to help the Crimson set a new regular season record of 25 wins.
Brian Barbour netted 23 points to pace the Lions (14-15, 3-10), who have now lost six in a row. Mark Cisco scored 12 points while Alex Rosenberg and Cory Osetkowski had 10 points each.
The Crimson took a 34-30 lead into halftime after they shot 75 percent from the floor and converted 8-of-10 at the charity stripe in the opening period. Columbia made 52.4 percent of its field goals and forced seven turnovers to stay close in the first half.
The Lions rallied back after the break by shooting 60 percent from the field in the second half. Columbia took a 47-46 lead with 12:21 left to play, but McNally made a jumper seven seconds later to put Harvard back up. The Crimson led 59-53 with 4:16 left in regulation, but the Lions kept the pressure with a three-pointer by Osetkowski, which was followed by a Barbour jump shot which it a one-point game. Curry drilled a three-point shot to give Harvard a four- point cushion, but two straight layups by Columbia tied it up, 62-62, with 33 seconds left to play. McNally's potential game-winning three-pointer was unsuccessful and the game progressed into overtime.
Harvard completely controlled the overtime period and managed to jump out to a 76-65 lead. McNally scored seven points at the free throw line in the extra time to seal the victory for the Crimson.
Harvard held a 28-23 advantage in the rebounding battle outscored the Lions, 40-28, in the paint.
