Anchorage, AK (Sports Network) - Blake Jenkins scored 22 points on 8-of-9 from
the field as the Belmont Bruins held off the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles,
70-67, in the third-place game of the Great Alaska Shootout at Sullivan Arena.
Kerron Johnson tallied 20 points and seven assists for Belmont (5-1), while
Trevor Noack scored 15 points. Both players shot 7-of-9 from the floor, and
the Bruins as a team shot a lofty 57.8 percent for the game.
For Oral Roberts (3-3), Steven Roundtree recorded a double-double with 13
points and 16 rebounds. Korey Billbury and Damen Bell-Hunter put up 12 points
apiece.
Oral Roberts shot just 35.7 percent from the floor in the first half to
Belmont's 58.3 percent, but the Eagles were able to keep their halftime
deficit to just five, 37-32, thanks to a 9-of-14 effort from the foul line.
The Eagles actually held a 56-48 lead midway through the second half following
a pair of D.J. Jackson free throws, but the Bruins went on an 11-2 run to
retake the lead, and they would not surrender that advantage for the rest of
the game.
Belmont was able to hold on to win despite being on the losing end of the
rebounding battle, 42-23.
