Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - Justin Simmons scored a game-high 21 points
as the Nebraska Omaha Mavericks ran past the UMKC Kangaroos, 67-59, in Summit
League action at the Swinney Recreation Center.
John Karhoff netted 16 points for Omaha (7-16, 4-6 Summit), while CJ Carter
added 11 points and six rebounds. The Mavericks have now won back-to-back
games for the first time all season.
Brad Reid tallied a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, while Thomas
Staton also scored 12 points for UMKC (6-16, 3-7 Summit), which has lost three
in a row.
UMKC made 19-of-39 attempts from the field in the first half (.487) as it took
a 41-30 lead into intermission. Omaha shot a respectable 46.2 percent in the
opening 20 minutes, but it attempted 13 fewer field goals than the Roos.
The Roos went ice-cold in the second half, making less than 30 percent of
their attempts from the floor. The Mavericks stormed past UMKC by making 50
percent of its field goal attempts and 9-of-10 from the foul line after
haltime.
Neither team took good care of the basketball, with Omaha committing 20
turnovers and UMKC coughing it up 19 times.
