NCAA Game Summary - UNC Greensboro at Appalachian State

Boone, NC (Sports Network) - Nathan Healy poured in 24 points and grabbed nine
rebounds to push the Appalachian State Mountaineers to an 83-70 victory over
the UNC Greensboro Spartans in a Southern Conference matchup at the Holmes
Center.
Mike Neal chipped in 19 points and Tevin Baskin scored 16 points to go along
with three steals as Appalachian State (7-8, 3-1 SoCon) picked up its fifth
win in a row. Jay Canty also made a solid contribution with 14 points, nine
boards, and four assists.
Trevis Simpson led UNCG (3-12, 1-3) by netting 22 points while Derrell
Armstrong produced 20 points and seven rebounds. The loss was the sixth for
the Spartans in their last seven appearances.
The Spartans did not trail at any point during the first half as they knocked
down 6-of-12 attempts from beyond the arc and 7-of-8 at the charity stripe to
take a 39-32 lead into the intermission. Appalachian State stayed close
despite shooting only 30.3 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes.
The Mountaineers scored 17 points off of turnovers and held a 26-12 edge in
points in the paint after halftime. UNCG did not make a field goal in the
second half until there was 12:32 left to play, at which point its seven-point
halftime lead had already become a seven-point deficit. The Spartans went cold
after the break and missed all seven of their 3-point attempts.
Appalachian State outscored the visitors, 28-18, at the free throw line in the
contest.
