Lubbock, TX (Sports Network) - Julien Lewis nailed a jumper with three seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Texas Longhorns over the Texas Tech Red Raiders, 71-69, in Big 12 Conference play at United Spirit Arena.
Lewis recorded 15 points and six rebounds for the Longhorns (15-16, 7-11 Big-12). Sheldon McClellan scored a game-high 27 points as Texas won its second consecutive game.
For the Red Raiders (10-19, 3-15), Jay Crocket put up a team-high 15 points and eight boards. Jordan Tolbert and Josh Gray chipped in 11 points apiece. Dejan Kravic contributed 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists as Texas Tech lost for the 11th time in the past 12 games.
In the first half, Texas was held to 10-of-30 from the floor, while the Red Raiders made 14-of-25 field goal attempts to take a 37-30 advantage at the break.
In the second half, Texas came back to tie the game up at 64-64 with 47 seconds left to play on a pair of McClellan free throws. After a 1-of-2 trip to the line for Texas Tech gave it a one-point lead, Mych Kabongo was sent to the stripe with three seconds remaining with a chance to win it, but he hit 1- of-2 and the game went to overtime.
After a back-and-forth overtime period, Lewis snapped a tie in the waning seconds with his game-winner.
Both teams committed 27 personal fouls. Texas controlled the boards, 44-34, and second chance points, 19-6.
