NCAA Game Summary - College of Charleston at Elon

(Thursday, February 2nd)

Final Score: Elon 99, College of Charleston 98 (2-OT)

Elon, NC (Sports Network) - Egheosa Edomwonyi atoned for his turnover late in the second overtime and came up with the game-saving block in the closing seconds as Elon fended off the College of Charleston, 99-98, at Alumni Gym.

Lucas Troutman scored 26 and Jack Isenbarger netted 25 for Elon (11-10, 6-4 SoCon), which finished at 54 percent shooting. Drew Spradlin chipped in 18 points and Sebastian Koch 14 for the Phoenix. Brett Ervin had 11 rebounds.

But it was the play of Edomwonyi that essentially save the Phoenix. Isenbarger's layup expanded Elon's lead to 99-95 in the final half-minute before Andrew Lawrence drained a three.

Edomwonyi then turned the ball over as Andrew Carlton came up with a steal. However, Edomwonyi blocked a jumper from Lawrence to preserve Elon's victory.

Lawrence scored 32 for the Cougars (13-10, 5-7), who lost for the fifth time in six games. Trent Wiedeman had 17 points and 17 rebounds, while Antwaine Wiggins scored 15 in a losing effort.

The Cougars, who went 11-of-30 from beyond the arc, trailed by as many as 23 points in the first half, but sent the game into the first OT even at 76 thanks to a late layup from Lawrence. Wiedeman's bucket in the final 30 seconds tied it at 82, necessitating the second extra session.
