(Saturday, November 10)
Final Score: Princeton 57, Buffalo 53
Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - A three-pointer by Will Barrett in the final moments was key as the Princeton Tigers held on to defeat the Buffalo Bulls, 57-53, in season-opening action at Alumni Arena.
Barrett, who averaged only 4.3 ppg last year, came up a rebound shy of a double-double as he scored a team-best 20 points, to go along with three blocked shots for the Tigers (1-0). Also scoring in double figures for the visitors were Ian Hummer and Clay Wilson with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The Bulls (0-1) were paced by Javon McCrea who scored a game-high 22 points, adding eight boards and three rejections. Tony Watson chipped in 10 points off the bench in the setback.
Princeton held the Bulls scoreless for the first eight minutes of the opening half, but the hosts closed the gap late and trailed by just a single point at the break, 22-21.
Buffalo kept the game close in the second half, but about midway through the frame the Tigers took over, eventually claiming the four-point victory.
The visitors survived despite shooting just 34.5 percent from the floor on the day, including 6-of-23 behind the three-point line. Buffalo also had trouble shooting from the field (.349) and suffered 18 turnovers.
