Martin, TN (Sports Network) - Joey Miller scored 28 points to lead the Eastern Illinois Panthers to a 74-71 triumph over the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks in an Ohio Valley Conference battle at Skyhawk Arena.
Jeremy Granger added 12 points for the Panthers (11-14, 4-9 OVC), while James Hollowell grabbed eight rebounds. The win was the second in a row for EIU.
Myles Taylor recorded a double-double for the Skyhawks (3-24, 0-14 ) with 24 points and 11 boards. Mike Liabo went 5-of-19 from the floor to net 14 points, Troy King had 12, and Dane Smith contributed 11 points as UTM lost its 15th in a row.
The Panthers took a 40-33 lead into halftime after they held its opponent to 28.6 percent shooting from the floor in the opening period. UTM hung around by making 16-of-17 from the foul line in the first half.
The Skyhawks fought back after the break by shooting 35.3 percent from the field and converting 10-of-11 at the charity stripe. Although it attempted 16 less shots in the period, EIU's 9-of-18 shooting from the floor over the final 20 minutes was enough to produce a victory. The Panthers did not trail in the second half.
UTM managed to make just 32.3 percent of its field goals in the contest, while the Panthers shot 48.9 percent from the floor en route to the victory.
