New Orleans, LA (Sports Network) - Quinton Doggett led the way with 21 points and 13 rebounds, as the Southern University Jaguars posted a 66-57 win over the MacMurray College Highlanders as part of the Skip Prosser Tournament this evening at Fogelman Arena.
Doggett was 8-of-13 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line for Southern (3-5). Russell Hill had a strong offensive game as well for the Jaguars, posting 18 points in 22 minutes of work off the bench.
Brady Slagle led MacMurray (4-3) with 10 points, Clint Lee chipped in with nine points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds in the loss.
The Jaguars shot just 36.7 percent from the field over the first 20 minutes of action, but the Highlanders shot just 34.8 percent in the first half, as Southern took a 35-27 lead into the break.
Despite a 33.3 percent effort from the floor after halftime, Southern was still able to earn the win, as MacMurray converted just 9-of-37 shots from the field in the second half.
Southern was able to pull down 52 rebounds, including 20 on the offensive glass in the game. The two teams combined for 38 turnovers, 20 by Southern and 18 by MacMurray.
Southern will take on Jacksonville State on Saturday, while MacMurray plays host Tulane.
