GAME NOTES: The Tulane Green Wave will try to stay undefeated as they host the Alcorn State Braves in the Hoops for Hope Classic tonight at Fogelman Arena.
Alcorn State is 1-2 after losing 77-58 to Kent State in its last outing. The Braves opened up the season with a win over Blue Mountain College before losing to West Virginia. Alcorn State's offense is off to a slow start as it is shooting 33.9 percent from the floor to average 65 points per game. The Braves are allowing 71 points per game on the defensive side of the floor.
Tulane is off to a 4-0 start after squeaking out a 57-55 victory over Navy in its last outing. The Green Wave reeled off victories over Alabama A&M, Nicholls State, and Maryland-Eastern Shore to start the year. Tulane is shooting 46.1 percent from the floor while holding opponents to a field goal percentage of 36.1. The Green Wave are outscoring their opponents by 19.5 points per game.
This will be the first all-time meeting between Tulane and Alcorn State.
Marquis Baker is providing senior leadership for the Braves. Baker struggled against West Virginia as he shot just 3-of-15 from the field, but he bounced back to score 29 points in the loss to Kent State. Baker takes a lot of shots, which makes him a dangerous player if he gets in the zone. Twann Oakley played well in the loss to Kent State as well. Oakley scored 13 points and grabbed five rebounds in the losing effort.
Kendall Timmons is leading Tulane with 17.5 points per game. The junior guard recorded a double-double in his last outing with 14 points and 10 rebounds against Navy. Josh Davis has been a great addition to the Green Wave in his first year with the team. The transfer from North Carolina State is averaging a double-double with 16.8 points and 10 rebounds per game. Davis made his mark with 23 points and 11 rebounds against Nicholls State.
Tulane is playing very well right now and it will be difficult for Alcorn State to slow down the Green Wave. The Braves can remain in the game if Baker catches fire.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Tulane 74, Alcorn State 62
