GAME NOTES: The Southern University Jaguars will clash with the Charleston Southern Buccaneers for the first-time ever, when the two schools take the floor at Sears Centre Arena as part of the Chicago Invitational Tournament.

It has been a rough start to the year for Southern, which has lost six of its seven contests thus far. Southern comes into this matchup stuck in a four-game slide, with the most recent setback coming against Oakland by a 105-53 margin. The 52-point setback came three days after the Jags were defeated by Richmond by a 41-point margin.

As for the Bucs, they also roll into this matchup stuck in a losing skid, as the team has dropped three in a row. On Friday, the Bucs fought hard against Austin Peay, but eventually fell to the Governors by a six-point margin. Once Charleston Southern is done in Chicago, the team will return home to battle Toccoa Falls.

The Jaguars' poor play to start the year continued in the team's setback to Oakland on Friday, as Southern scored just 53 points in a 52-point setback. The Jags shot a woeful 32.7 percent from the field in the loss and that included a poor 4-of-16 clip from behind the arc. Blake Sanford was the best player on the floor for Southern, as the guard posted 17 points on a 6-of-14 effort. Julius Ingram (11.8 ppg) added 11 points for Southern, but clearly the Jags were no match for Oakland. The Grizzlies dominated the play on the glass as well, outrebounding Southern by a 55-25 margin.

The Buccaneers fought hard to get back in the matchup against Austin Peay on Friday, but they simply could not overcome 17 turnovers. Charleston Southern shot a pedestrian 40.0 percent from the field in the setback, and connected on just 9-of-23 attempts from behind the arc. Jamarco Warren led the way in the setback with 18 points, as he connected on 5-of-10 field goal attempts, four of which came from behind the arc. Jeremy Sexton was the only other player in double-figures for Charleston Southern, as the guard posted 14 points. Kelvin Martin chipped in with nine points, while Sheldon Strickland dished out a team-high six assists.

Both teams are struggling right now, but the Jaguars have taken to a new level, losing by a combined 93 points over their last two games. Not much should change for Southern this time around.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Charleston Southern 88, Southern 66
