NCAA Game Summary - Texas-Arlington at Michigan State

East Lansing, MI (Sports Network) - Durrell Summers scored 20 points and Draymond Green added 19, as 11th-ranked Michigan State dispatched of Texas- Arlington, 87-68, in the final tuneup before starting its Big Ten schedule.
Kalin Lucas chipped in 16 points and Chris Allen 14 on 4-of-7 three-point shooting for the Spartans (10-3), who bounced back nicely from their 79-68 road loss to second-ranked Texas last week. Green also provided a team-high seven assists with as many rebounds.
Michigan State has now won 47 straight non-conference games at the Breslin Center.
"At times I thought we played really good basketball (but) I didn't think our defense was good enough. You have to give them a lot of credit. It's a well- coached team," said Spartans head coach Tom Izzo.
Marquez Haynes had 20 points and five assists for UT-Arlington (5-5), which was coming off a 101-85 rout of Texas Wesleyan. Brandon Long added 16 points in the loss.
Michigan State scored the opening 12 points of the game and held an 18-2 advantage shortly thereafter following a three-point play by Summers.
Texas-Arlington made inroads to the deficit and got within seven on back-to- back buckets from Ishmael Awange and Haynes just past 10 minutes in.
The Spartans answered with an 11-3 run -- starting and ending on a pair of Green jumpers -- for a 33-18 difference with 6 1/2 minutes to play.
The Mavericks stubbornly put in the next nine points and were still hanging around at halftime down only six at 44-38.
Allen and Haynes traded threes for their respective teams early in the second half and Green followed with four points to give MSU a 51-43 edge four minutes in.
Allen answered another Maverick three-pointer with one of his own and Green sank two free throws moments later to run the lead to 10. That margin still stood at the 10-minute mark despite Armani Williams draining a UTA triple.
The Spartans rattled off nine of the next 11 points to go in front 73-56 on a Lucas layup with 7 1/2 minutes remaining. His jumper a little more than a minute later sparked a 9-0 Spartan stretch that provided a comfortable 82-58 lead that went unchallenged the rest of the way.
Michigan State opens its Big Ten schedule Saturday at Northwestern...The Spartans shot 50.8 percent from the field and hit 7-of-20 three-point attempts...The Mavericks knocked down 10-of-23 shots from long distance. Haynes and Williams, who ended with nine points, had three treys apiece...UTA shot 43.6 percent from the floor overall.
