Rutgers, Stringer agree on 4-year deal

Piscataway, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Hall of Fame women's basketball coach C. Vivian Stringer has agreed on a four-year contract to remain at Rutgers, the school announced Wednesday.

Stringer is the winningest active women's basketball coach with a 929-341 mark in 43 years with Cheyney, Iowa and Rutgers.

She ranks second all-time behind legendary Tennessee coach Pat Summitt and has led Rutgers into the NCAA Tournament 14 times in 19 seasons.

Rutgers athletic director Julie Hermann said it was a "privilege" to have Stringer lead the Scarlet Knights into the Big Ten Conference next season.

Stringer, 66, had signed a seven-year deal in 2007.

The Scarlet Knights finished 28-9 last season and won the 2014 WNIT postseason championship. It was the most wins for the school since 2005.
