Final Score: San Jose 2, Seattle 1
Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - The San Jose Earthquakes extended their lead in the race for the MLS Supporters' Shield on Saturday, earning a 2-1 win over Seattle Sounders FC at CenturyLink Field.
It took San Jose just 90 seconds to break through as Simon Dawkins took a pass from Alan Gordon and fired a shot into the upper corner from 25 yards out.
Seattle got on level terms 12 minutes later when Sammy Ochoa's ball to the back post was tucked in by Steve Zakuani, scoring his first goal since returning from broken leg last season.
San Jose reclaimed the lead at the half-hour mark when Victor Bernardez played a low cross into the six-yard box where Chris Wondolowski was waiting to turn in his league-leading 22nd goal of the year.
Seattle scrambled in search of an equalizer for much of the second half, but it came up short as San Jose (18-6-6) improves to 60 points on the season, five points better than Sporting Kansas City.
The Sounders (13-7-9) suffer their first league loss since August 11 when they fell to the 'Quakes, 2-1, at Buck Shaw Stadium.
