Revs, Red Bulls play to dramatic draw

Foxborough, MA (Sports Network) - Red Bull New York thought it had done enough to come away from Gillette Stadium with all three points, but Darrius Barnes nodded home a late equalizer to help the New England Revolution claim a point in a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

New York was reduced to 10 men in the 74th minute when Connor Lade was sent off with the reception of his second yellow card of the match.

Nevertheless, the Red Bulls managed to take the lead late on when a cross was not properly dealt with by Revs goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth. The visitors capitalized on some sloppy defending as Joel Lindpere headed the loose ball into the back of the net amid a couple of collapsing defenders.

The Red Bulls appeared to be on their way to a rare victory in New England until the dying minutes when Ryan Guy's dangerous cross was met by Barnes. The Revs defender caught Red Bulls goalkeeper Bill Gaudette off his line and made him pay the price with his first goal in 88 MLS matches.

New York (14-8-8) remains third in the Eastern Conference but improves to 50 points on the year while New England (7-15-8) goes to 29 points to restore its two-point lead over the Philadelphia Union.
