Description: Nationals manager Davey Johnson said he hasn't ruled out using Tyler Clippard as closer in September, according to MLB.com.
Insight: Rafael Soriano has blown two saves and allowed eight runs on 13 hits over his last 6 1/3 innings. Clippard, who had 32 saves last season, has a 2.01 ERA in 58 1/3 innings this year.

Description: Nationals closer Tyler Clippard allowed the game-winning run to come across on a wild pitch Sunday against the Rockies. The loss was Clippard's third of the season.
Insight: This was the first run Clippard had given up since May 16, snapping a streak of 20 scoreless outings in a row. Clippard (2-3, 1.93 ERA) has still yet to blow a save since taking over as the team's closer in late May.

Description: Washington's Tyler Clippard will remain the team's closer even after Drew Storen is activated from the DL.
Insight: The Nationals have tried several different closers in Storen's absence but it looks like they've finally found their man in Clippard. Since posting a 5.40 ERA in the season's opening month, Clippard has allowed just one earned run in 22.1 innings of work (0.40). Storen has converted all 12 chances since becoming Washington's closer at the end of May.

Description: Nationals reliever Tyler Clippard will serve as the team's closer until Drew Storen is activated, Washington manager Davey Johnson confirmed Friday.
Insight: The announcement was nothing more than a formality at this point, as Clippard has been brilliant in the role, saving 5-of-5 games. The right-hander hasn't allowed a hit since May 18, a string of 6 2/3 innings. Still, it's nice to know that Clippard owners won't have to worry about Sean Burnett or anyone else poaching saves until Storen returns after the All-Star break.

Description: Nationals reliever Tyler Clippard sent the Braves down in order on Saturday for his fourth save of the year.
Insight: In his last four appearances, Clippard has four saves while not allowing a baserunner in 3 2/3 innings. He's struck out six batters in the span.

5/26/2012 9:01:00 PM
Description: Tyler Clippard earned his third save of the season Saturday in an 8-4 victory over the Braves.
Insight: The Nationals announced that Clippard and Sean Burnett would be sharing the closer duties while Brad Lidge and Drew Storen are out but so far there hasn't been much sharing going on. Clippard has been on the mound for each of Washington's last three save opportunities, converting all three. Clippard could be a smart pickup if you're looking for a quick fix in the saves category.

Description: Tyler Clippard and Sean Burnett will share the closer duties until Drew Storen is ready to return from the disabled list.
Insight: This announcement comes on the heels of Henry Rodriguez losing his job as the team's closer earlier in the week. Clippard (1-2, 3.00) and Burnett (0-0, 0.68 ERA) are both capable of earning saves but neither one should be looked at as long-term fantasy solutions at the closer position.

10/2/2010 5:23:00 PM
Description: Tyler Clippard gave up three runs during a relief inning to take the loss today. He has an 11-8 record this year.
Insight: Remember in the spring when Clippard sprinted out to an 8-1 record and led the NL in wins? Now his win-loss record looks more like a starting pitcher. He hasn't been great in the second half and is strictly an NL-Only option for now.

3/1/2010 8:11:00 PM
Description: The Washington Post reports that Clippard could be used as the long reliever for the Nationals' this season.
Insight: Clippard also could be the lefty specialist for the Nationals' as lefties hit only .122 against him last season. (SportsBuff.com)
