Park, Chen share lead at WAPL

Norman, OK (Sports Network) - Annie Park and Doris Chen posted matching 4- under 68s on Monday and they share the lead after the first round of stroke play at the U.S. Women's Public Links Championship.

Park and Chen are teammates at the University of California and they helped the Trojans win the NCAA Championship last month.

Anne-Catherine Tanguay, Casey Danielson and Mariel Galdiano share third place at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club at minus-3.

Grace Na posted a 2-under 70 and was joined in sixth place by Julie Yang, Rika Park and Kelly Shon.

Karen Chung and Ashley Holder are one stroke further back at minus-1, while defending champion Kyung Kim is among nine players tied at even-par 72.

Park, the PAC-12 and NCAA Individual champion, played the front nine first on Monday and birdied the third, sixth and ninth. She made it two in a row around the turn with another birdie at 10. Park tripped to a bogey at 12, but bounced back with a birdie on the par-5 13th. She parred the final five holes to end there.

Chen, the 2010 U.S. Girls' Junior champion, was in the final group out off the first. She had back-to-back birdies at four and five. Chen turned at 3-under after a birdie on No. 8. She birdied the 12th and 13th, but stumbled to a bogey at 15 to fall back into a share of the lead. Chen parred the last three holes to end there.

Stroke play wraps up with another 18 holes on Tuesday. The six rounds of match play will be contested from Wednesday until Saturday, when the 36-hole final will be played.
