ATB Financial Classic postponed

Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Due to excessive rain and flooding in the Calgary area, the resumption of the first round of the ATB Financial Classic has been postponed until Saturday.

Only 42 players were able to finish at least one hole before play was suspended on Thursday, and the weather prevented any action from occurring on Friday.

"With the surrounding communities affected by flooding and the golf course saturated from the excessive rain, we have determined it would be in the best interest of players, volunteers, staff and most importantly the surrounding community to cancel play today," PGA Tour Canada President Jeff said in statement released Friday.

"Through discussions with the sponsors, tournament organization and golf course staff, we plan to proceed tomorrow with the tournament, which would become a 36-hole competition and would carry over scores recorded so far. It is expected the tournament will conclude on Sunday evening."

Nate McCoy was 2-under through five holes and sat on top of the leaderboard at Country Hills Golf Club when play was suspended on Thursday.

Stuart Anderson, Brock Mackenzie, Mitch Evanecz, Josh Persons, Kyle Kallan and Jesse Smith shared second at 1-under when play was halted.

Anderson was through three holes and Mackenzie completed two, while the remaining four had finished one.
