Toledo earns medalist honors at PGA Tour Canada Q-school
Beaumont, CA (Sports Network) - Jose Toledo fired a 6-under 66 on Saturday to claim medalist honors at the PGA Tour Canada Qualifying School.
Toledo, of Guatemala, was one of 33 players to finish the final round Saturday morning after play was suspended due to darkness Friday. The 26-year-old finished at 15-under 273 -- good for a 4-shot victory over Brady Schnell.
"I'm going to get to play 25-30 events this year, which is great. I've never played that many events," said Toledo, who also claimed medalist honors at PGA Tour Latinoamerica's Peru Q-School this year. "I'm really excited for the season."
Schnell, a medalist at the 2009 PGA Tour Canada Qualifying Tournament, held the 54-hole lead at this event before carding a final-round 74 and finishing second at 11-under.
Toledo and Schnell were two of 20 players to earn fully exempt status for the 2013 season. Twenty-six other players earned non-exempt status, which will get them into some, but not all, tour events this year.
Robert Hoag (71) took third at 9-under, Erik Barnes (74) and Chris Epperson (70) tied for fourth at 8-under, amateur Josh Anderson (66), Trevor Murphy (75) and Andrew Vijarro (71) tied for sixth at 7-under and Brett Lederer (70) took ninth at 6-under.
Andre Metzger (70), Nathan Tyler (70), Tony Finau (72) and Joel Kribel (70) placed 10th at 5-under, while Maxwell Scodro (72), Josh Persons (68), David Skinns (71) and Andrew Georgiou (75) tied for 14th at minus-4.
Six players finished in a tie for 18th at 3-under-par, forcing a playoff for the three final exempt spots. Stephen Gangluff, Alan Wagner and Jeff Hamm survived the playoff, while Bentley Nakasawa, Alex Kang and Conrad Shindler earned non-exempt status.
