Pablo Cuevas is the first Uruguayan to win a Tour-level title since 1997.
Bastad, Sweden (SportsNetwork.com) -
Pablo Cuevas overpowered fifth-seeded Joao Sousa of Portugal 6-2, 6-1 to win the Swedish Open title Sunday in his first ATP singles final.
The start of the match was suspended nearly five hours because of rain, but once play got underway, Cuevas made quick work of Sousa.
Cuevas, 28, fired four aces and broke Sousa's serve five times in the 58- minute match. He is the first Uruguayan to win a Tour-level title since Marcelo Filippini's triumph in St. Polten, Austria in May 1997.
