Description: New Jaguars GM David Caldwell said the team plans to have an open competition at quarterback. "Whether it's through the draft or through free agency, we'll bring in some more people to compete at the quarterback position," Caldwell said. "We're going to let the best player win that position."
Insight: Caldwell also said Thursday that he can't see how Tim Tebow will end up with the Jaguars, so don't look for him to be involved in the open competition. Blaine Gabbert is still just 23 years old but he hasn't shown much development yet.

Description: Jaguars QB Blaine Gabbert, who left the game with Houston due to a right elbow injury, has been placed on the IR, according to a John Clayton report.
Insight: Thus ending another disappointing season for the Jaguars' quarterback. Chad Henne threw for more than 300 yards as his replacement against Houston and was going to take over the role of starter even before this news.

Description: Jaguars QB Blaine Gabbert left the game with Houston due to a right elbow injury. He has also been dealing with a left shoulder injury.
Insight: Chad Henne came into the game and led the Jaguars on a touchdown drive ending in a pass to tight end Marcedes Lewis. Jacksonville may not be in a hurry to put Gabbert back in the lineup if Henne has continued success.

Description: Jaguars QB Blaine Gabbert (shoulder) is probable for Week 11 against the Texans.
Insight: Gabbert left late in last Thursday's game against the Colts but we suspect it was more of a precautionary measure than something serious. As it stands, Gabbert will try to play the rest of the season with a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder. The Texans held a healthy Gabbert to 7-of-19 for 53 yards and an interception in Week 2 so the Jaguars QB should not be started under any circumstances in Week 11.

Description: Jaguars QB Blaine Gabbert had his strongest fantasy performance of the season last Sunday against Green Bay, throwing for 303 yards and a touchdown one week after he tore the labrum in his non-throwing shoulder.
Insight: Gabbert came out of the game without re-injurying the shoulder and faces a Detroit Lions' secondary that is a bit beaten up. If injuries or the bye weeks have your starter watching from the sidelines, Gabbert could be a low-end starter.

Description: Jaguars QB Blaine Gabbert had his strongest fantasy performance of the season Sunday against Green Bay, throwing for 303 yards and a touchdown (to tackle Guy Whimper) one week after he tore the labrum in his non-throwing shoulder.
Insight: Gabbert completed 27-of-49 and outgunned Aaron Rodgers by 117 yards but Jacksonville lost anyway. Still, if Gabbert can continue to perform like this (unlikely) it would help out the fantasy values of Cecil Shorts (8-116) and Justin Blackmon (4-67).

Description: Jaguars QB Blaine Gabbert injured his left shoulder and was forced from the game Sunday against Oakland.
Insight: Early reports called it a torn labrum in his left shoulder, but he'll see Dr. James Andrews on Tuesday. Neither Gabbert or his backup, Chad Henne, have proven to be fantasy-worthy.

Description: Jaguars QB Blaine Gabbert injured his left shoulder and was forced from the game Sunday against Oakland.
Insight: He's been replaced by veteran Chad Henne. Gabbert had thrown for eight completions and 110 yards at the time of his departure.

Description: Jacksonville quarterback Blaine Gabbert, who left Sunday's game against Houston after suffering a left leg injury, is probable for Sunday's game against Indianapolis.
Insight: Gabbert was a much improved quarterback in Week 1 against Minnesota (23-of-39 for 260 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs), but reverted to the 2011 version of himself last week against a much tougher Texans defense. Since we are not yet to the bye week portion of the schedule there doesn't seem to be much reason for fantasy owners to start him.

Description: Jacksonville quarterback Blaine Gabbert left Sunday's game against Houston after suffering a left leg injury.
Insight: Gabbert was horribly inaccurate in this game, completing just seven of the 19 throws he attempted for a meager 53 yards through the air. He may have fooled a few fantasy owners with his surprisingly productive effort in Week 1 (260 yards, one TD) but it appears the charade is over.

8/18/2012 5:53:00 PM
Description: Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert went 13-of-16 for 112 yards and two scores in the team's second preseason game Saturday after going 5-of-10 for 62 yards and a touchdown in the first exhibition game.
Insight: These are positive signs from Jacksonville's much-maligned second-year QB. While it remains unlikely that Gabbert can be a consistent fantasy contributor this season we'd like to see him continue his high level of play to help the fantasy value of Laurent Robinson, Justin Blackmon, Marcedes Lewis and even Maurice Jones-Drew.

8/5/2012 12:22:00 PM
Description: ESPN's AFC South beat writer Paul Kuharsky said Blaine Gabbert is still having too many bad moments "that leave you shaking your head" in training camp so far.
Insight: Kuharsky said Gabbert has been receptive to mentions of mechanical or technical adjustments by his coaches but he still has to prove he can handle a live pass rush when the pocket starts collapsing. With his two best offensive weapons (Maurice Jones-Drew and Justin Blackmon) still not in camp, it could be a long season for Gabbert. Only draft him if you play in a two-QB league and need a backup.

7/24/2012 11:24:00 AM
Description: Jaguars second-year quarterback Blaine Gabbert can't be happy that the team's No. 1 draft choice, Justin Blackmon, isn't signed and ready for camp, or that star running back Maurice Jones-Drew may not report on time.
Insight: Gabbert had a poor rookie season with a 50.8 percent completion rate, 2,214 passing yards and 12 touchdowns against 11 interceptions. If he's going to improve in his second year at the controls, it would help to have all his weapons in camp. We do think he'll post better numbers in 2012, but he needs all the reps he can get.
