Tempe, AZ (Sports Network) - Danny Sullivan connected on 19-of-31 passes for
220 yards and a touchdown to power the Arizona State Sun Devils to a
38-14 thrashing of the UL-Monroe Warhawks in a non-conference battle.
Sullivan also had a touchdown run for Arizona State (2-0).
Trey Revell connected on only 10-of-23 passes for 126 yards and two touchdowns
with two interceptions in the setback for UL-Monroe (1-2).
Arizona State set the tone immediately, as Omar Bolden returned the opening
kickoff 89 yards for a score. Midway through the first quarter, the Sun Devils
extended their advantage to 14-0 on a one-yard scoring plunge by Dimitri
Midway through the second quarter, the Warhawks were able to cut their deficit
to 14-7 on a 14-yard touchdown pass from Revell to Darrell McNeal.
The Sun Devils answered by scoring the final 10 points of that second quarter
to take a 24-7 advantage into intermission. Sullivan's nine-yard touchdown
pass to Chris McGaha was followed by a 24-yard field goal by Bobby Wenzig.
The third quarter was once again dominated by Arizona State, as one-yard
touchdown runs by Dimitri Nance and Sullivan made the score 38-7.
UL-Monroe scored the only points of the fourth quarter on a four-yard
touchdown pass from Revell to Anthony McCall.
Strong defense was key to the victory for Arizona State, which limited the
Warhawks to 199 total yards.
