Final Score: D.C. United 1, Philadelphia 0

Chester, PA ( - Philadelphia Union's winless run reached nine consecutive matches on Saturday after the club suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of D.C. United at PPL Park.

Coming off a 2-1 defeat against Seattle last weekend, Philadelphia hoped for a better performance in front of the home crowd, but things started poorly for the home side as Chris Rolfe was left alone in the penalty area.

With several Union defenders watching the play, Rolfe was allowed to take a cross down off his chest and rip it past Union goalkeeper Zac MacMath on the half-volley after just six minutes.

Philadelphia's best chance of the first half came in the 15th minute when a Cristian Maidana corner kick fell to Amobi Okugo in the penalty area, but the strike flew over the crossbar.

The Union looked primed to find an equalizer with 25 minutes to play when Andrew Wenger got free on the turn and went in on goal, but Bill Hamid came to United's rescue, stopping Wenger point blank, and then stopping Conor Casey's follow-up chance with a spectacular dive.

The Union continued to press forward as the fourth official's board showed five minutes of stoppage time, but an equalizer never came and United snuck away with all three points.

Philadelphia has not won since March 15 against the New England Revolution and remains on eight points, while D.C. improves to 14 points.
