Columbus, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Bernardo Anor netted a first-half brace on
Saturday as the Columbus Crew held on for a nervy 2-1 win over the
Philadelphia Union at Crew Stadium.
After dismantling D.C. United in their season opener on March 8, the Crew had
the better of the play in their home opener early on and jumped on top in the
24th minute when Federico Higuain lofted a corner kick into the area that was
nodded home by an unmarked Anor.
The hosts doubled their lead in first-half stoppage time when Anor's rocket
from well outside the penalty area beat Union goalkeeper Zac MacMath to the
Philadelphia got one back in the 62nd minute when Sebastien Le Toux got free
down the left flank and sent a low cross into the box that was pounded home by
substitute Leo Fernandes.
Energized by the goal, Philadelphia had the better of the opportunities in the
second half and threw numbers forward in the final 10 minutes, but the
visitors' finishing was just a tad off all night as the Crew came away with
all three points.
