Ten-man RSL earns draw with FCD
Sandy, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Real Salt Lake failed to wrap up a playoff spot on Saturday after being held to a 1-1 draw at Rio Tinto Stadium, but the club will still be pleased with the point after playing the final 73 minutes with 10 men.
Kenny Mansally's 17th-minute red card put RSL in a terrible position, but Alvaro Saborio gave the home side an unlikely lead on the hour mark.
Kenny Cooper equalized in the 72nd minute for FCD, but the result does little to help Dallas, which has earned just one point from its last four games and sits four points back of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
Jackson was at the center of the action in the first half for Dallas when he struck the post with a header after nine minutes before he was taken out by a hard foul from Mansally, who received his marching orders.
RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando had to be alert to keep out Jackson's flick in the 34th, while the hosts carved out a chance early in the second half, only for Ned Grabavoy to be denied at close range by Dallas goalkeeper Chris Seitz.
The opener came on the hour mark when Saborio tracked down a long ball and beat three defenders before slotting his shot past Seitz for a nice individual goal.
But Salt Lake was unable to hold the lead as Cooper equalized from a Je-Vaughn Watson cross which he tucked inside the far post 18 minutes from time.
