Description: Three-time Pro Bowler Nnamdi Asomugha will announce his retirement on Friday. SOURCE: Scott Blair, Comcast Sportsnet Bay Area
Insight: He'll sign a one-day contract with Oakland so he can retire with the team he began his career with in 2003. Asomugha logged two tackles in three games for the 49ers before getting cut last month. In his prime, the Cal-Berkeley alum was considered one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL.

Description: Nobody claimed cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha during his 24-hour waiver period.
Insight: That makes him a free agent. As disappointing as Asomugha was during his stays in Philadelphia and San Francisco, someone is bound to take a chance on the three-time Pro Bowler at some point.

Insight: Technically, he's been placed on waivers but it's unlikely that anyone would claim him. The 32-year-old has only been active for three games this season.

Description: Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha has agreed to a one-year deal with the 49ers. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: It comes with a $1.5 million base salary, a far cry from the $12 million he earned annually during his two-year stint with the Eagles. Asomugha underachieved in Philadelphia but perhaps playing for a contender will rejuvenate him. He'll be 32 when training camp starts in July.

3/12/2013 3:46:00 PM
Description: The Eagles have released cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha after two disappointing seasons, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Insight: Asomugha was once considered a top-two cornerback in the NFL but that seems like ages ago. He was a major bust with Philadelphia, getting beat frequently in coverage and showing terrible ball skills.

3/6/2013 11:07:00 AM
Description: Eagles cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, who had been asked to rework his contract, is expected to be released on Wednesday.
Insight: Asomugha never did solidify the Eagles secondary as the team thought he would when the signed him away from Oakland. In two seasons with Philadelphia (32 games), Asomugha totaled four interceptions, zero forced fumbles and 94 tackles,

Insight: AKA, the Eagles want to give him a pay cut. If Asomugha (55 tackles, one interception last season) doesn't agree to the new terms, Philadelphia could cut him this offseason. Stay tuned.

12/9/2012 2:10:00 PM
Description: Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha left Sunday's game against Tampa bay with an undisclosed injury in the second quarter.
Insight: That's good news for Eagles fans, but could help Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams. So far, however, Josh Freeman is not having a good day throwing the ball.

8/16/2012 12:56:00 PM
Description: Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha has returned to practice for the Eagles. Asomugha injured his neck during a collision with teammate Nate Allen on Monday.
Insight: That's good news for Eagles fans. Asomugha will serve as the cornerstone of an elite Philadelphia secondary this season.

8/13/2012 7:52:00 PM
Description: Philadelphia cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha appears to have escaped major injury after a frightening collision occurred between he and safety Nate Allen at practice on Monday. Asomugha strained his neck and cut his lip but he isn't showing any signs of a concussion.
Insight: Asomugha might miss a few practices but his neck should be fine for the start of the regular season. The Eagles will begin their regular season slate September 9 against Cleveland.

Description: Eagles CB Nnamdi Asomugha, one of Philadelphia's celebrated free agency acquisitions, injured his left knee during practice Thursday and was taken off the field on a cart. SOURCE: BOSTON GLOBE
Insight: Asomugha was participating in a non-contact drill on the grass fields adjacent to the team's NovaCare Complex when he was hurt. The 30-year-old, a three-time Pro Bowl pick and four-time All-Pro selection, leads the Eagles (4-6) with three interceptions '" two in his last four games. No word yet on his availability for Sunday.

Description: It comes a time in fantasy football where you're wondering if you are willing to start your stud WR, which is pretty much your WR1, against a stout defense, especially one that'll key in on him. Or if your WR1 is facing one man who'll ruin your day, your week because you can expect a big fat zero and it'll leave you in regret as your bench WR's outscore your main WR. This man, his name, is Nnamdi Asomugha and he is now a part of the 2011 Philadelphia Eagles. Andre Johnson owners you can rejoice because he won't be facing Nnamdi this year. We're talking about arguably thee best shutdown corner in the NFL. Back in 2007 he was the LCB (Left Cornerback) and shut down anyone lining up on the left side as he was only thrown to 31 times for just 10 completions for the entire season. Enter 2008, he shifted over to the RCB (Right Cornerback) and opposing teams rarely tested him again, allowing only 8 completions for those 27 attempts, and again it was for an entire season, still not impressed? How about that same year, the lone WR to have a good game against him was Randy Moss who posted a 3rec 40yd game, ouch. In 2009, Nnamdi was thrown to just 27 times and allowing a total of 13 completions, but most impressive yet came in 2010. He was thrown too just 27 times again, allowing 10 completions and gave up zero, yes zero touchdowns. So is it safe to say if you own one of the top 5 or top 10 WR's and their facing the Eagles, are you going to start him against Nnamdi? Are you going to risk putting up zero points that week, especially if it's a week you have to win in fantasy in order to advance to the playoffs, knowing one of your bench WR's has a better match-up; that's up to you. Now lets take a look at the WR's who'll face Nnamdi in the 2011 season. SOURCE: IDP WITH BEE

Description: Washington still is among the long list of teams expected to make a push for Nnamdi Asomugha '" the top cornerback on the market. SOURCE: WASHINGTON POST
Insight: Cincinnati's Johnathan Joseph, the Jets' Antonio Cromartie and Pittsburgh's Ike Taylor also are expected to be on the market. the Redskins also are losing Phillip Buchanon, who started five games and recorded 49 tackles, two interceptions and two forced fumbles. Coaches like third-year cornerback Kevin Barnes, but is he a legit starter?

Description: Impending free agent DB Nnamdi Asomugha reportedly "wants to play elsewhere" in 2011. SOURCE: TWITTER
Insight: Asomugha initially said he wants to play for a contender, which the Raiders are likely not going to be. He will definitely cash in as the top defensive free agent this offseason.

1/25/2011 4:06:00 PM
Description: According to Colts owner Jim Irsay, the team has no interest in going after free agent DB Nnamdi Asomugha. SOURCE: TWITTER
Insight: Irsay said that the "cap restricts" how much money the team can dump on high-priced free agents. Like the Steelers, Irsay would rather build his team through the draft. And considering the Colts are in the playoffs almost every year, we can't disagree with him. The team is going to need all the money they can save with them set to make Peyton Manning the highest-paid player in the league.

Description: Free agent DB Nnamdi Asomugha revealed that there's a "good chance" he'll return to Oakland next season. SOURCE: TWITTER
Insight: We'd be surprised since he should be the most highly-sought free agent this offseason once free agency begins, which may not happen for months with the CBA complications. Anyway, Asomugha may decide to return knowing that Al Davis might break the bank to bring him back. We'll see if he sticks to his statement that he wants to play for a contender.

Description: There are talks within the Chargers organization regarding bringing in free agent DB Nnamdi Asomugha this offseason. SOURCE: SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE
Insight: Talks have been "serious enough to mention," but San Diego willing to throw the amount of money Asomugha would be looking for is still considered a "longshot." The Chargers already have two strong cornerbacks in Quentin Jammer and Antoine Cason, so it's not like Nnamdi is a huge need. It sure would stick it to Al Davis, however, having to play against Nnamdi twice a year.

1/12/2011 3:02:00 PM
Description: According to CSN Philly's Reuben Frank, free agent Nnamdi Asomugha is "at the top of the Eagles' offseason priority list."
Insight: This could just be wishful thinking on Frank's part. Asomugha has made his Super Bowl intentions clear and will likely go to a team with fewer holes than Philly. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: There is belief that the Eagles could enter the sweepstakes for free agent DB Nnamdi Asomugha. SOURCE: CSN PHILLY
Insight: The Eagles traded Sheldon Brown to Cleveland last year, but never really had a solid backup plan in place across from Asante Samuel, instead settling on Dimitri Patterson. The move would make sense since Asomugha wants to play for a contender and the Eagles have a need, but we aren't sure whether Philly would pony up the cash Nnamdi is looking for with so much money tied up in Samuel at the moment.

Description: Despite saying he would love to play for HC Rex Ryan, the Jets are expected to focus on re-signing their own players and not go after DB Nnamdi Asomugha. SOURCE: NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
Insight: There really isn't a huge need for another shutdown cornerback with Darrelle Revis shadowing No. 1 receivers. Antonio Cromartie is a free agent this offseason and would be a much cheaper option to re-sign over what Asomugha is going to be asking for. Plus, the team already has first-rounder Kyle Wilson. A Revis/Asomugha combo would certainly look sweet, but it likely won't happen.
