Description: Jon Heyman from CBS Sports reports catcher Geovany Soto and the Rangers have reached terms on a new one-year, $3 million contract.
Insight: With Mike Napoli headed to Boston, Soto is expected to start behind home plate for the Rangers next season. Soto's production has dropped off considerably over the past few seasons so we're not optimistic about his fantasy prospects heading into the 2013 campaign.

12/1/2012 5:59:00 PM
Description: The Rangers and catcher Geovany Soto weren't able to get a deal done before Friday night's non-tender deadline. Soto is now officially a free agent.
Insight: Soto had a dismal season in 2012 (.198, 11 HR, 39 RBI). He's off the fantasy radar.

8/29/2012 7:04:00 PM
Description: Texas catcher Geovany Soto will sit out Wednesday's game against the Rays.
Insight: Soto is hitting .247 with two homers and 12 RBI in 21 games since coming over from Chicago at last month's trade deadline.

7/22/2012 2:00:00 PM
Description: Cubs catcher Geovany Soto won't be in the lineup Sunday when Chicago takes on St. Louis.
Insight: Soto's average has been below .200 since mid-April and at this point he's just far too inconsistent to warrant a spot on any fantasy rosters.

7/20/2012 4:04:00 PM
Description: Cubs catcher Geovany Soto is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against St. Louis.
Insight: Soto has batted .300 over his last six games to raise his average to .191. Whatever happened to the catcher with the .800-plus OPS? At this point Soto has little fantasy value.

7/19/2012 1:59:00 PM
Description: Cubs catcher Geovany Soto is just 2-13 (.154) in his career against Thursday's starting pitcher, Miami Marlins lefthander Mark Buehrle.
Insight: We're thinking Thursday would be a good day to sit Soto, who is hitting just .194 this season with 6 HRs and 13 RBIs.

7/2/2012 7:05:00 PM
Description: Chicago catcher Geovany Soto is not in the starting lineup for Monday night's matchup with the Braves.
Insight: Soto continues to disappoint fantasy owners with his meager batting average (.168) and underwhelming power numbers (five homers, nine RBIs in 37 games).

6/20/2012 7:49:00 PM
Description: Chicago catcher Geovany Soto is not in the starting lineup Wednesday night for the Cubs' series finale against the White Sox.
Insight: Soto (.168, 4 HRs, 7 RBIs) is 2-8 with a homer since coming off the DL on Monday.

6/18/2012 6:53:00 PM
Description: Cubs catcher Geovany Soto has been activated from the 15-day DL. Soto was out for a month with a partially torn meniscus in his left knee. He's starting at catcher and batting eighth Monday night against the White Sox.
Insight: Soto's return probably won't have much impact on the fantasy scene: he's owned in just 13.5 percent of fantasy leagues heading into today's action.

5/18/2012 12:59:00 PM
Description: Cubs catcher Geovany Soto is expected to be placed on the 15-day disabled list with a slightly torn meniscus in left knee.
Insight: Soto has been horrible for most of the season (.161, 3 HR, 6 RBI) and likely wasn't in any fantasy lineups anyway. With backup Steve Clevenger (oblique) also sidelined, the catching chores will fall to Wellington Castillo (.208, 1 HR, 4 RBI).

Cold5/4/2012 10:36:00 AM
Description: Cubs catcher Geovany Soto is hitless in nine at-bats against Dodgers starter Chad Billingsley with four strikeouts.
Insight: Soto hasn't done anything this season (.161, 2 HR, 3 RBI), but his backup Steve Clevenger is on the disabled list so it doesn't leave many options for manager Dale Sveum. The fantasy owner, however, should have a number of better choices.

4/29/2012 11:10:00 AM
Description: Cubs catcher Geovany Soto is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against Philadelphia.
Insight: Soto hasn't done anything to make him worthy of fantasy ownership in any format this season (.135, 1 HR, 1 RBI). Backup Steve Clevenger has been much more productive with the bat, going 11-for-22 (.500) in limited action.

4/28/2012 7:18:00 PM
Description: Geovany Soto missed Saturday's game against the Phillies because of a sore back.
Insight: Soto hasn't done anything to make him worthy of fantasy ownership in any format this season (.135, 1 HR, 1 RBI). The Cubs catcher is officially listed as "day-to-day."

4/25/2012 10:53:00 AM
Description: Cubs catcher Geovany Soto is not in Wednesday's lineup. He's not injured, just getting a day off after a night game. Steve Clevenger, who is hitting .526 (10-for-19) this season, will start behind the plate.
Insight: Soto continues to struggle with the bat, hitting just .140 with a .464 OPS. At the moment, Clevenger is the better fantasy option.

Cold4/21/2012 11:47:00 AM
Description: Cubs catcher Geovany Soto is just 1-for12 in his career against Reds starter Mike Leake.
Insight: Soto is off to an ugly start with the bat, batting just .150 with a .490 OPS through his first 11 games. Combined with his bad history against Leake, Soto should be on your bench on Saturday.

Cold4/17/2012 2:50:00 PM
Description: Cubs catcher Geovany Soto will not be in Tuesday's lineup against Miami. He's getting a well-needed day of rest.
Insight: Soto is off to an ugly start with the bat, batting just .138 with a .538 OPS through his first eight games.

Insight: Koyie Hill should get the bulk of the playing time behind the dish until Soto returns.

5/10/2011 8:29:00 PM
Description: Cubs catcher Geovany Soto left Tuesday night's game against the St. Louis Cardinals in the bottom of the first with a left groin strain. SOURCE: ESPN.com
Insight: The Cubs have not announced the severity of Soto's injury but, with the limited depth of fantasy talent at the position, you will have a harder time replacing him in deep leagues.

9/20/2010 11:00:00 AM
Description: The Chicago Sun Times reports Soto (right shoulder) will have arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder on Monday.
Insight: Soto will miss the rest of the season. He will finish 2010 with a .280 average with 17 home runs and 53 RBI over 322 at-bats. (RapidDraft.com)

9/14/2010 2:01:00 PM
