Description: Angels starter Jered Weaver (back) played catch Tuesday and said he feels "a lot better," according to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register.
Insight: Weaver (9-6, 3.50 ERA, 1.14 WHIP) left Monday's game prior to the third inning due to lower back tightness. That he was able to play catch just one day later leaves the door open for him to make his next start.

Description: Angels starter Jered Weaver left Monday's start with lower-back tightness, according to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times.
Insight: Weaver (9-6, 3.50 ERA, 1.14 WHIP) displayed obvious frustration after throwing a warm-up pitch prior to the third inning and he was removed from the game. The good news is that he doesn't have an arm injury. Matt Shoemaker, Wednesday's scheduled starter, came on to pitch in place of Weaver, so Hector Santiago is likely to start in Shoemaker's place.

Description: Angels starter Jered Weaver has won six of his last seven decisions.
Insight: Weaver gave up five home runs and had a 5.79 ERA in his first three starts this season, but he's recorded a 2.01 ERA while giving up four home runs in 53 2/3 innings his last eight starts. Weaver's four-seam fastball sitting around 86 mph for the second straight season, but he's figured out how to cope with the velocity loss by using more two-seamers, curveballs and changeups.

Description: Angels starter Jered Weaver has won five of his last seven starts to raise his record to 5-3.
Insight: The right-hander has yielded two runs or less in all seven of the starts to lower his ERA to 2.85 and his WHIP to 0.995. That's pitching at an extremely high level. He'll face a Seattle team on Tuesday averaging just 3.66 rpg over the past six contests.

The right-hander worked out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in a 1-1 game in the top of the eighth inning Monday against the Yankees and finished with eight innings, one earned run and seven strikeouts in a 4-1 win. Weaver's velocity is down again but he continues to limit hard contact (13.9 LD%).

6/27/2013 10:39:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles starter Jered Weaver was brilliant Thursday against the Tigers.
Insight: Thursday was easily the righthander's best outing of the season. Weaver gave up one run in seven innings, walking two and striking out six. The game was tied when Weaver left so he had to settle for the no-decision.

5/30/2013 10:02:00 AM
Description: Angels right-hander Jered Weaver allowed five hits and one run and struck out seven over six innings Wednesday against the Dodgers in his first start back from the DL.
Insight: Weaver missed almost two months with a fractured non-throwing elbow. He dealt with diminished fastball velocity before his injury and didn't throw much harder last night. That could be an issue this season.

5/29/2013 2:48:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles righthander Jered Weaver has passed all the hurdles, has been activated and is expected to start on Wednesday against the Dodgers.
Insight: Weaver has been out almost two months with a broken elbow, but did throw 5 2/3 innings of one-hit baseball in an extended spring training game last week. Joe Blanton (1-7, 6.19 ERA) will probably move to the bullpen when Weaver returns. Make sure he's in your starting lineup for Wednesday.
