GAMES NOTES: The Purdue Boilermakers continue a five-game homestand to begin the season on Sunday when they welcome in the Rider Broncs for a non- conference joust at Mackey Arena.

Rider has yet to really get into the rhythm as they had just a single game in the opening week. That one contest did not end well for the Broncs as they were sent away with a 92-78 loss on the road against Lehigh. That contest was the first of a three-game road trip for the Broncs to open the campaign. Rider nearly fought to the .500 level on the road last season when it went 8-9 away from home.

The Boilermakers previous game came against Central Connecticut State and ended in a 109-73 triumph for the Boilermakers, who are 2-0 on the year. The first win of season did not come as easily though, as the Boilermakers needed a pair of free throws from Ronnie Johnson in the final 20 seconds to escape with a 77-76 victory over Northern Kentucky. Clearly playing at home has its advantages, something the Boilermakers cashed in on 12 times in 19 tries a year ago.

This contest marks the first ever between the Broncs and Boilermakers on the hardwood.

Daniel Stewart managed to score 24 points, a game-high, but it wasn't enough for Rider against Lehigh. Stewart wasn't overly efficient from the field (6- of-14) but he took full advantage of his opportunities from the free-throw line, hitting all 10 shots. Stewart also got help from Anthony Myles (12 points) and Jimmie Taylor (11 points), though Myles hit just 4-of-11 shots. Junior Fortunat and Tommy Pereira each added 10 points off the bench. Stewart and Myles are the top two returning scorers from last year's team as well as the only two full-time returning starters. As a team, the Broncs really didn't have much luck on offense as they shot below 39.6 percent from the floor. However, it was the defensive effort that really sank them as they allowed Lehigh to knock down 58.8 percent from the field, while being on the short end of a 42-21 deficit on points from 3-point range.

Terone Johnson scored 17 points as five players scored in double figures for Purdue in the win over Central Connecticut State. The Boilermakers shot at a 54.4 percent clip from the field and also more than doubled Central Connecticut State's output from beyond the arc (27-12).

Ronnie Johnson and Terone Johnson have taken turns as the leading offensive option for the Boilermakers. Ronnie (14.5 ppg, nine assists) has been the most productive scorer for the squad as well as the team's best distributor. Terone (13.5 ppg) is scoring at a pace just slightly below that of Ronnie but he is shooting at an even 50 percent from the field. Errick Peck (11.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg) is the anchor down low thus far, leading the team in rebounding. Rapheal Davis (10.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg) is also proving to be an important player off the bench. As a team the Boilermakers are shooting 51.1 percent from the floor, having knocked down 16-of-39 shots from 3-point range.

The Boilermakers seemed to find their footing after a close call to start the year. Expect another strong effort on their home floor on Sunday.
