NCAA Game Summary - Metropolitan State at Elon

Elon, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Mitch McCarron finished with 29 points, as the Metropolitan State Roadrunners held off the Elon Phoenix, 75-74, in consolation round action of the NIT Season Tip-Off at Alumni Gym.
For the Roadrunners (2-0), Brandon Jefferson and Raul Delgado each finished with 11 points while Nicholas Kay chipped in with 10 points, as Metro State became the first NCAA Division II team in history to win two games at the NIT Season Tip-Off. Metro State will play Canisius in the final game of the tournament Tuesday night.
The Phoenix (2-4) were led by Austin Hamilton and Sebastian Koch, each with 15 points, while Lucas Troutman scored 11 points and Tanner Samson dropped in 10 points. Jack Isenbarger contributed 13 points off the bench. Elon closes out its tournament slate with a game against Georgia State, also Tuesday night.
Metro State shot 48.5 percent from the floor and held Elon to just 39.1 percent, as the Roadrunners went into halftime with a 40-29 advantage.
In the second half, Elon was much better from the field, making 52.2 percent of its shots and 7-of-11 from 3-point range. Metro State shot 45.8 from the field in the second half. After trailing by 11 midway through the period, the Phoenix slowly made their way back and with their deficit just one, 75-74, they had two chances to win it in the final seconds, but Koch and Troutman both missed shots close to the hoop to allow the Roadrunners to escape with a road victory.
Metro State dominated down low, outscoring Elon in the paint, 30-18. The Roadrunners also forced 14 turnovers and converted them into 15 points.
