Oxford, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Will Felder and Will Sullivan each scored a team-high 16 points to lead the Miami-Ohio RedHawks over the Akron Zips, 65-61, in Mid-American Conference play at Millett Hall.
Sullivan grabbed seven rebounds and Felder pulled down six of his own for Miami (11-15, 7-8 MAC). Geovonie McKnight chipped in 13 points and five rebounds in the win, which was the second in a row for the RedHawks.
Deji Ibitayo scored 14 points to pace Akron (17-11, 9-6). Demetrius Treadwell notched a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Quincy Diggs brought down a team-high 12 rebounds with four assists. The Zips have dropped three straight contests.
Miami shot a dismal 25.9 percent from the floor in the first half, but hit four 3-point tries and went 9-of-10 from the free-throw line to take a 27-20 lead into the intermission. Akron hit 24.1 percent of its field goal tries in the frame, and shot 2-of-10 from 3-point distance.
The RedHawks hit 50 percent of their shots in the second half, and buried nine more free throws in the period. The Zips connected on 51.9 percent of their shots, and outscored Miami in the half, 41-38, but couldn't come back from the first-half deficit.
Miami outscored Akron from the free-throw line, 18-12, and had the edge in fast break points, 10-4. Akron held the advantage in bench points, 25-9.
