NCAA Game Summary - Fairfield at Providence

Providence, RI (SportsNetwork.com) - Bryce Cotton scored 18 of his game-high 24 points at the free throw line to power Providence to a 78-69 victory over Fairfield at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
Cotton missed just once from the stripe and the Friars finished 38-of-45 overall from the line in a game that featured 49 fouls. Tyler Harris added 16 points and Kadeem Batts contributed 13 with a game-high eight rebounds in the victory.
Providence (7-1) bounced back from nicely from its first loss of the season, a 56-52 setback to Maryland on Monday. Next up for the Friars is another test on Sunday against third-ranked Kentucky in Brooklyn.
Marcus Gilbert scored 23 points and Maurice Barrow chipped in 20 for Fairfield (1-6), which has lost six straight since a season-opening win over Sacred Heart.
The Stags never led and tied the game just once, at 2-2 on a bucket by Gilbert in the first minute. The Friars followed with the next eight points and led by double-digits for the final eight minutes of the opening half.
Fairfield trailed 40-30 at the intermission and cut it to 46-40 early in the second half, but Providence answered with the next 12 points. Harris hit all four of his free throws during the burst, which Batts capped with a layup for a 58-40 cushion.
The Stags got only as close as nine with five minutes left before Providence paraded to the line. After Harris drained a pair from the stripe, Cotton hit 12 straight free throws over the final four minutes to help seal it.
