Starkville, MS (SportsNetwork.com) - Led by 20 points from Charles Hill Jr., the TCU Horned Frogs downed the Mississippi State Bulldogs, 71-61, in non- conference action at Humphrey Coliseum.
For the Horned Frogs (5-3), Kyan Anderson added 16 points, Michael Williams scored 11 and Karviar Shepherd pulled down 16 rebounds.
Craig Sword led all scorers with 24 points for the Bulldogs (5-2), their only player in double figures on the night.
TCU shot well from the outset, hitting on 45.8 percent of its field goal tries, including 4-of-8 from 3-point range in the first half. Mississippi State struggled from the field, shooting just 36 percent and missing all six of its shots from beyond the arc, allowing the Horned Frogs to take a 34-22 lead into halftime.
The Bulldogs had much improved shooting after intermission, making 48.4 percent of their shots but still struggled from long distance, hitting just 3- of-12 from 3-point range. The Horned Frogs stayed steady, shooting 45 percent in the second half. After trailing by as many as 18 midway through the half, the Bulldogs were able to cut the Horned Frogs' lead to just three with 2:28 to play, but they could get no closer as TCU pulled away for the victory.
TCU outscored Mississippi State 25-10 at the free-throw line. The Bulldogs did have the advantage down low, outscoring the Horned Frogs in the paint, 34-24.
