Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Norman Powell scored a game-high 17 points off the bench, leading four players in double figures, as the UCLA Bruins delivered an 82-56 win over Cal State Northridge in a non-conference battle at Pauley Pavilion.
Kyle Anderson logged 15 points for the Bruins (5-2), Travis Wear 14 and Shabazz Muhammad 13 points to go along with nine rebounds for the hosts. Larry Drew II took just three shots from the floor over 32 minutes, instead turning his attention to getting his teammates involved in the action with a game-high 13 assists.
The Matadors (6-2) were paced by Stephan Hicks with 11 points, although he shot just 5-of-16 from the floor, while Landon Drew tacked on 10 points in a reserve role.
CSUN held a two-point lead early in the first half, but it disappeared rather quickly as the visitors shot only 30.3 percent from the floor in the period, including 3-of-16 beyond the arc, as UCLA moved out to a 38-24 lead at the break.
In the second half the Bruins erupted for 62.1 percent accuracy from the field in order to cruise to the 26-point win.
The UCLA defense forced 16 turnovers and held the Matadors to a mere 5-of-26 shooting out on the perimeter.
UCLA, which was ranked 11th in the nation last week before being shocked by Cal Poly, 70-68, on Sunday, lost junior center Joshua Smith it was announced on Wednesday. Smith, who was granted an immediate release, averaged 5.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game this season, playing 13.5 minutes per outing.
