NHL Game Summary - Calgary at Phoenix
(Thursday, March 10th)
Final Score: Phoenix 3, Calgary 0
Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - Ilya Bryzgalov was brilliant between the pipes, stopping 38 shots for his sixth shutout of the season, as Phoenix downed Western Conference foe Calgary, 3-0.
Eric Belanger, Brett MacLean and Shane Doan all tallied as Phoenix recorded just its second win in eight games.
"He was excellent," Coyotes head coach Dave Tippett said of Bryzgalov. "We probably gave up more chances than we like, but he was solid in all aspects."
Henrik Karlsson made 29-of-31 saves for the Flames, who had a three-game win streak snapped.
After a scoreless first period, MacLean found the back of the net for Phoenix 1:51 into the middle stanza. He collected Mikkel Boedker's pass just above the crease and deposited the puck into the top right corner.
Phoenix got the all-important next goal at the 4:49 mark of the final frame, thanks to Belanger's patience. He carried the puck down the right side and held on long enough for a small window to open, then wristed it past Calgary's netminder.
The Flames pulled Karlsson with more than two minutes left, but Doan's empty- netter with 1:56 left sealed the Coyotes' win.
The Coyotes wrapped up a three-game homestand with a 2-0-1 record. Phoenix is 17-11-6 overall as the host this season...Doan has six points in his last six games.
