Final Score: Tampa Bay 3, Phoenix 0
Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - Dan Ellis turned aside all 23 shots he faced, as the Tampa Bay Lightning took a 3-0 win over the Phoenix Coyotes to start a four-game road trip.
Mattias Ritola, Adam Hall and Steven Stamkos each scored, while Ellis recorded his first shutout of the season as Tampa Bay won its second in a row.
"The guys are keeping the shots to the outside, and when they do that and when they give you a chance to see the puck, and when they clear away rebounds, it always makes a goalie's job easier," Ellis said.
Ilya Bryzgalov allowed all three goals on 23 shots for the Coyotes, who were looking to win a second consecutive game for the first time this season.
"We have a lot of players that, stats-wise, can contribute a lot more," said Coyotes head coach Dave Tippett. "You look at our top forwards, we have no goals from [Shane] Doan, no goals from [Wojtek] Wolski, no goals from [Ray] Whitney. These are people we rely on for skill. At some point we need them to contribute."
After a scoreless first period, Ritola put the Lightning on the board with his first career goal, as his wrister got by Bryzgalov with a little more than four minutes left in the second.
Hall's tip-in 4:26 into the third made it a 2-0 game, and Stamkos' tally -- his ninth of the season -- came with just over five minutes to play.
Ellis was tested 10 times in the final period, but made every save to secure the victory.
Stamkos extended his point streak to six games. He also has recorded at least one point in nine of 10 games this season...Tampa Bay plays in Anaheim on Wednesday, when Phoenix hosts Nashville.
