Ducks edge Blues
St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Getzlaf posted a goal and an assist as the Anaheim Ducks held on for a 3-2 win over the St. Louis Blues on Saturday.
Cam Fowler and Matt Beleskey each had a goal while Frederik Andersen posted 34 saves for the Ducks, whose loss to Chicago on Friday snapped an eight-game winning streak.
Barret Jackman and Jaden Schwartz scored for the Blues, who have dropped three of their last four. Brian Elliott gave up all three goals on 21 shots.
Anaheim opened the scoring at 5:27 of the first period. Corey Perry had control of the puck at the low right side and tried to get to the front, but lost control of the disc. However, it slid out to the slot and Getzlaf buried it for his 25th of the season.
The Ducks took a 2-0 lead at 2:27 of the second period when Nick Bonino brought the puck in down the middle and dished it over to the left for Beleskey, whose hard shot trickled past Elliott.
It was a 3-0 game nearly seven minutes later when Fowler's slap shot from the top of the left circle found its way through a screen for a power-play goal.
The Blues finally got on the board at 9:12 of the third as Jackman's shot from the high slot found its way to the back of the net, and Schwartz made it a 3-2 game with 5:29 to play as his quick shot from a sharp angle at the left side snuck past Andersen for a power-play goal.
That was it, though, as St. Louis was unable to find the equalizer in the final minutes.
