Flyers give Giroux eight-year extension

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Flyers and captain Claude Giroux have reportedly agreed to an eight-year contract extension.

CSNPhilly.com is reporting the deal and says that it is worth $66.2 million over the length of the contract.

The deal will begin at the start of the 2014-15 season, as Giroux will finish out the final year of a three-year deal he signed in 2010 in the umpcoming campaign.

Since making his debut in the 2007-08 season, the 25-year-old has become the star of the team and has totaled 91 goals and 200 assists over 333 games in six seasons.

The first-round draft pick (22nd overall) of the 2006 draft notched 13 goals and 35 assists in 48 games last season, but did finish minus-seven and he missed the postseason for the first time since joining the team full-time.
