Description: The Fort Myers News Press reports James has not ruled out a return to football.
Insight: James was waived by Seattle last November, and has not received any interest on the free agent market. (
11/4/2009 8:37:00 PM
Description: According to NFL reporter Adam Caplan, via Twitter, James has passed through waivers and is now an unrestricted free agent.
Insight: The 31-year old "Edge" would appear to be done as an NFL running back. (
11/3/2009 11:22:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Seattle Seahawks have released Edgerrin James.
Insight: This may well signal the end of James' potentially Hall of Fame-worthy career. He had averaged just 2.7 yards per carry for Seattle this season. Justin Forsett will take his place as Julius Jones' primary backup. (
8/26/2009 8:16:00 PM
Description: James is officially listed as the Seahawks' No. 2 tailback behind Julius Jones. (Seattle Post-Intelligencer)
Insight: James' best days are clearly behind him, but if Jones falters he could find himself getting significant playing time. (
8/24/2009 6:47:00 PM
Description: According to Mike Florio of Pro Football, the Seattle Seahawks have signed free agent RB Edgerrin James.
Insight: James may not start immediately, but he could easily cut into Julius Jones' workload in short order and could take the starting job at some point. But he is only worth consideration as a late-round pick. (
Steady6/27/2009 10:41:00 AM
Description: According to agent Drew Rosenhaus, James is in top shape and waiting for an opportunity.
Insight: The ten-year veteran had his least productive year in 2008 with the Cardinals. He gained 514 yards on 133 carries and had just 12 receptions. He probably won't be a fantasy factor in 2009. (
5/20/2009 11:55:00 AM
Description: reports that the Saints are still considering signing James, whom GM Mickey Loomis has determined "can still play."
Insight: Joining the Saints would limit James' scoring potential, as Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas would still be ahead of him in line. Such a signing could, however, be bad news for Pierre Thomas owners. We'll see what the team ultimately decides. (
4/29/2009 1:16:00 AM
Description: As long expected, the Cardinals finally released James on Tuesday.
Insight: The move has been anticipated ever since James got pulled from the lineup for Tim Hightower at St. Louis. James isn't the player he was for the Colts earlier in his career, but he did post the best per-carry average of his three-year Cardinals stint in 2008. Look for James to land somewhere, and the right situation could make him a decent mid-round option. (
4/3/2009 7:22:00 PM
Description: According to the Arizona Republic, the Cardinals are expected to release James in the near future.
Insight: Tim Hightower will be the starter and the Cardinals are likely to draft a running back later this month. (
3/23/2009 8:32:00 PM
Description: The Arizona Republic reports that the Cardinals are unlikely to release James until their running back situation is settled.
Insight: The Cardinals have Tim Hightower and recently signed Jason Wright and will add one more running back into the mix before releasing James. (
1/19/2009 10:57:00 AM
Description: James rushed the ball 16 times for 73 yards against the Eagles in the NFC Championship Game. He also caught one pass for 16 yards.
Insight: What a turnaround it has been for James who was benched for the majority of the season. He has come on strong in the postseason and has had over 16 touches in all three postseason games. (
1/13/2009 3:36:00 PM
Description: James is finally a decent fantasy running back again. He had 20 carries for 57 yards and a touchdown last week against Carolina.
Insight: James might find the yardage a bit harder to come by this week but is still a solid No. 1 option at RB with only four teams left in the playoffs. (
1/5/2009 8:13:00 PM
Description: James rushed 16 times for 73 yards in the Cardinals' victory over the Falcons.
Insight: Despite being on the bench for most of the season, James finds himself back as the starting running back and a key part of the Cardinals' playoff run. (
11/20/2008 12:37:00 PM
Description: Edgerrin James has been denied his request to be traded from Arizona. James is the No. 3 back in Arizona and has little fantasy value.
Insight: Tim Hightower and J.J. Arrington are ahead of James on the depth chart. (
11/14/2008 11:24:00 AM
Description: James only got two carries for four yards against San Francisco in Week 10. He has lost the bulk of his carries to rookie Tim Hightower.
Insight: The Edgerrin James era in Arizona appears to be over. Look for him to get limited work for as long as Tim Hightower stays healthy. (
Cold11/11/2008 7:48:00 AM
Description: James had only two carries for four yards in Arizona's win over the 49ers on Monday.
Insight: James continues his downward spiral into fantasy irrelevance as he has carried the ball only nine times in his last three games. (
Cold11/2/2008 6:46:00 PM
Description: James got a DNP-CD on Sunday against the Rams. No word on whether he'll be in the backfield next week.
Insight: Perhaps Ken Whisenhut was just sending James a message by starting Tim Hightower. Perhaps Hightower is just better than James at this point in their respective careers. He has had a long and fruitful NFL journey, but James has apparently neared the end. (
Cold10/26/2008 2:18:00 PM
Description: James gained just 17 yards on seven carries and lost a fumble.
Insight: James had the unmitigated gall to question his place in the Cardinal offense, then he puts up a stinker like this? C'mon, Edge. He even lost his goal line carry to Tim Hightower and has less than ten carries in three of the last four games. Bench him. (
10/22/2008 12:16:00 PM
Description: Arizona travels to Carolina this week and James could find rushing yards very hard to come by. James has been getting a reduced amount of carries and has shared the work load with rookie Tim Hightower.
Insight: Consider James a risky play this week. For the money, there are several better options to start at running back no matter what your format is. (
10/17/2008 12:52:00 PM
Description: James continues to get diminished carries as the season progresses. The folks in Arizona have never really seemed to be sold on James as a featured back.
Insight: Arizona has the bye this week and the offense will have plenty of time to make a decision on whether or not to make Tim Hightower the focal point of the offense. Look for early updates next week on this running back controversy. (
