Colts will make Luck first pick in draft Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - Indianapolis Colts general manager Ryan Grigson confirmed Tuesday that the team will select Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck with the first pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. Since officially releasing Peyton Manning in March, it had been widely speculated that Luck would be the Colts' choice. Thus, the Washington Redskins will likely take Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III with the No. 2 overall pick on Thursday. Once Luck's name is called on Thursday, it will mark the fourth consecutive year a quarterback is selected first overall -- the second-longest streak in NFL Draft history. A quarterback was taken off the board first in each year from 2001-2005. If Luck and Griffin are selected with the first two picks, as expected, they would become the fifth pair of quarterbacks to be selected No. 1 and No. 2 overall in the same year since the common draft was instituted in 1967. 04/24 19:42:48 ET Powered by The Sports Network. |
