Description: Geoff Blum is expected to miss another four or five weeks as he recovers from knee surgery. SOURCE: Arizona Republic
Insight: Blum is a good guy in the clubhouse, but his stats throughout the years are not very impressive. As Ryan Roberts has taken over his position for the Diamondbacks, continue to ignore Blum.

Description: Geoff Blum will undergo left knee surgery and could miss six to eight weeks. SOURCE: Nick Piecoro on Twitter
Insight: Blum has not played a game yet this season and it looks like he will be out at least another two months. At best, he is a bench player, so he is not worth having at this point.

Description: The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed veteran infielder Geoff Blum in a move that new general manager Kevin Towers says is 'the first step' in improving the team's bench. SOURCE: Yahoo Sports
Insight: Blum's value will be limited to deep NL-only leagues because there is no guarantee of playing time.
8/27/2010 11:11:00 AM
Description: Geoff Blum is dealing with a sore neck, but will be available to pinch hit today. SOURCE: Alyson Footer on Twitter
Insight: It looks like he will avoid the disabled list but seeing as he is a backup anyway, it does not matter much. Limited at-bats and production make him not very attractive in any format.
7/19/2010 6:24:00 PM
Description: reports Blum (right elbow) had the surgical stitches removed from his right elbow over the weekend.
Insight: Blum looks likely to return to the Astros sometime in early August. (
7/7/2010 1:00:00 AM
Description: Alyson Footer of reports Blum (elbow) will undergo surgery to remove loose bodies from his right elbow on Wednesday.
Insight: There is yet to be a timetable set for Blum's return to action. (
7/5/2010 2:00:00 PM
Description: Updating a previous item, the Houston Chronicle reports Blum (right elbow) will be examined on Tuesday to see if surgery is required on his elbow.
Insight: Blum could undergo arthroscopic surgery as soon as Wednesday, which could sideline him for a month. Since he has no home runs and is hitting .241 on the season, hopefully this is not big news for your fantasy team. (
7/5/2010 10:33:00 AM
Description: reports the Astros placed Blum (right elbow) on the 15-day DL on Sunday.
Insight: Blum is dealing with "loose bodies" in the elbow and will be further evaluated this week. (
3/22/2010 12:25:00 PM
Description: reports Blum is expected to see action at SS on Monday against St. Louis
Insight: The Astros infield is a little banged up, with 1B Lance Berkman (left knee) and SS Tommy Manzella (strained quad) both dealing with injuries right now. Blum may take over at 1B if Berkman is not ready on Opening Day, but his versatility gives Astros' manager Brad Mills some options if need be. (
3/16/2010 11:03:00 AM
Description: The Houston Chronicle reports Blum, who is 9-for-20 at the plate so far this spring, is making a case to be Lance Berkman's (left knee) temporary fill-in.
Insight: This of course assumes Berkman, who underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee last week, misses the early part of the season. (
Steady7/20/2009 2:57:00 PM
Description: Blum hit his third homer of the season and second of the month. He also had a pair of walks.
Insight: If you are looking for a low end third baseman, Blum could be your man. His .282 average won't hurt most teams and he has hit .370 in July with 12 RBI. (
Steady7/3/2009 12:56:00 PM
Description: Blum slammed a three-run homer off of Kevin Correia and has started the last five games at third base for the Astros.
Insight: Blum had missed two weeks with a strained hamstring. He is hitting .266 and the homer was his second of the season. There's no reason to look at him in mixed leagues, but he could be a decent 1B/3B in NL-only leagues. (
