2/11/2014 1:03:00 PM
Description: Righthander Roy Oswalt has decided to retire after 13 major league seasons. SOURCE: Buster Olney, ESPN
Insight: Oswalt pitched with the Rockies in 2013 but his last fantasy-worthy work came in 2010 while he was with Houston and Philadelphia. He'll finish his career with a 163-102 record in 365 big league appearances (341 starts).

8/3/2013 5:00:00 PM
Description: Rockies starter Roy Oswalt (hamstring) hit a roadblock in his return to the mound, stopping after just two batters in a simulated game on Saturday, according to Colorado beat writer Troy Renck.
Insight: Oswalt lost each of his four starts this season (7.64 ERA in 17 2/3 innings) and at this point fantasy owners should not be expecting him back anytime soon.

7/8/2013 7:43:00 PM
Description: Rockies starter Roy Oswalt has officially been placed on the 15-day DL.
Insight: He's out with a strained left hamstring. Outfielder Charlie Blackmon was called up from Triple-A in the corresponding roster move. Oswalt has lost each of his four starts this season (7.64 ERA in 17 2/3 innings).

7/8/2013 1:54:00 PM
Description: Rockies pitcher Roy Oswalt is expected to head to the disabled list after being forced out of his fourth start with a hamstring injury.
Insight: When you are 35-years-old these things happen. He's expected to miss at least three weeks. Based on how he pitched, yielding 14 earned runs in his first three starts, it's safe to say he has little to no fantasy value anymore.

6/20/2013 9:54:00 PM
Description: Rockies pitcher Roy Oswalt gave up nine hits and four earned runs in five innings Thursday in his 2013 debut at Washington, but he struck out 11 with zero walks.
Insight: Oswalt hadn't struck out that many batters in a game since September 1, 2005. The righty had a 5.80 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP in 59 innings with Texas last season, but he should be a decent matchup play for his non-Coors-Field starts.

6/20/2013 6:36:00 PM
Description: Colorado has purchased Roy Oswalt's contract from Double-A Tulsa. The veteran will make his team debut Thursday at Washington.
Insight: Oswalt had a 5.80 ERA and couldn't hold onto a rotation spot in his brief stint with Texas last season. Pitching in Colorado could be an issue for the right-hander.

6/17/2013 5:12:00 PM
Description: Denver Post columnist Troy Renck expects Roy Oswalt to make his Rockies debut Thursday against Washington.
Insight: Oswalt was more down than up during his brief stint with Texas last season (5.80 ERA, .320 opponent batting average). Now he's a year older and playing half of his games at hitter-friendly Coors Field. We wouldn't put much faith in Oswalt.

6/15/2013 6:06:00 PM
Description: Roy Oswalt is expected to join the Rockies' rotation Wednesday against the Blue Jays, according to the Denver Post.
Insight: Oswalt went 4-3 with a 5.80 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP in 59 innings with Texas last season, but he is 3-2 with a 2.16 ERA in his minor league appearances this year, including 8 1/3 shutout innings Friday with Double-A Tulsa. Pitching at Coors Field is tough on most starters, so Oswalt should only be added in NL-only leagues and 12-team mixed leagues for now.

6/11/2013 1:52:00 PM
Description: The Rockies think Roy Oswalt will be ready to pitch for the big club after one more minor league start.
Insight: Oswalt went 4-3 with a 5.80 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP in 59 innings with Texas last season and owns a 2.88 ERA and 1.000 WHIP in four starts for Tulsa in the Texas League.

5/2/2013 6:35:00 PM
Description: The Rockies announced that they have signed Roy Oswalt to a minor league deal. He'll report to extended spring training.
Insight: Oswalt went 4-3 with a 5.80 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP in 59 innings with Texas last season, and landing in Colorado doesn't bode well for his fantasy prospects.

1/27/2013 6:11:00 PM
Description: Adam Rubin of ESPN reports that the Mets are interested in signing free agent starting pitcher Roy Oswalt.
Insight: Oswalt's tenure in Texas was pretty much a disaster so it's tough to tell how much the 35-year-old has left in the tank. If he does move back to the National League, Oswalt should see a modest improvement from the numbers he posted in 2012 (4-3, 5.80 ERA in 17 games).

9/10/2012 10:42:00 AM
Description: Rangers starter Roy Oswalt is questionable for his next scheduled start with a sore right elbow.
Insight: Oswalt lasted just two innings on Sunday, yielding six hits and four runs to the Rays. He hasn't pitched very well this season with a 6.29 ERA and 1.58 WHIP so his absence shouldn't cause problems for fantasy owners.

8/18/2012 8:22:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Roy Oswalt was solid in a spot start for Ryan Dempster Saturday against the Blue Jays. Oswalt only allowed two hits in 4 2/3 innings (1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K).
Insight: Oswalt will likely go back to the bullpen, as Dempster will start Monday against Baltimore.

8/17/2012 8:06:00 PM
Description: With Ryan Dempster sidelined for personal reasons, Texas righthander Roy Oswalt will get the start Saturday against Toronto.
Insight: Oswalt certainly wasn't thrilled when manager Ron Washington demoted him to the bullpen at the end of last month so this should come as good news for the 34-year-old. It's not good news for fantasy owners however as Oswalt has been brutal over his last four starts (1-2, 7.77 ERA).

7/31/2012 5:26:00 PM
Description: Texas right-hander Roy Oswalt has been demoted to the bullpen, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Insight: Oswalt was shelled Monday after missing his previous start due to back stiffness. The right-hander has served up 10 or more hits in three of his six starts this season and 54 in 34 2/3 innings overall. He'll likely return to the rotation eventually, but he can be curbed in fantasy leagues.

7/30/2012 10:35:00 PM
Description: Texas right-hander Roy Oswalt (back) started for the first time since July 17 Monday against the Angels and was shelled. Oswalt allowed eight runs on 11 hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Insight: Oswalt missed his last start due to back stiffness. The right-hander has served up 10 or more hits in three of his six starts this season and 54 in 34 2/3 innings overall. His stuff is not sharp enough right now to trust him in fantasy leagues.

7/24/2012 5:40:00 PM
Description: Texas right-hander Roy Oswalt (back) will throw a bullpen session Friday in an attempt to make his scheduled start Sunday.
Insight: Oswalt has been dealing with some back stiffness that caused him to miss his last start. The right-hander has pitched well in three starts (18 1/3, 17 H, 3 ER) this season, but he's been knocked around the yard in the other two (10 2/3, 26 H, 14 ER). Still, with a solid 25/6 K/BB in 29 1/3 innings, Oswalt is worth owning in deeper leagues.

7/22/2012 4:11:00 PM
Description: Texas righthander Roy Oswalt has been scratched from his scheduled start Monday against the Red Sox. Oswalt is dealing with tightness in his lower back.
Insight: Scott Feldman (3-6, 5.89 ERA) will make the start in Oswalt's place. Feldman hasn't appeared in a game for the Rangers since July 8 when he tossed two scoreless innings against the Twins in a 4-3 Texas victory.

6/22/2012 11:03:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Roy Oswalt returned to the big leagues in style Friday, holding Colorado to one run on nine hits in 6 2/3 innings to pick up his first win since Sept. 27, 2011.
Insight: Oswalt stats weren't great down in the minor leagues (1-1, 5.87 ERA), but he was likely just working on building his arm up. He had good command Friday, walking just one and striking out six. He's definitely worth owning in mixed leagues, but don't get too excited, as Friday's start came against a Rockies lineup without Troy Tulowitzki and with just one batter hitting above .276.

6/20/2012 8:02:00 PM
Description: Roy Oswalt is set to make his Texas Rangers debut Friday night at home against Colorado.
Insight: Oswalt stats weren't great down in the minor leagues (1-1, 5.87 ERA) but Nolan Ryan liked what he saw when he watched Oswalt pitch on Sunday. Oswalt will take Scott Feldman's spot in the Rangers' starting rotation.
