Description: In the Royals lineup, catcher Salvador Perez has had the most success against Orioles pitcher Miguel Gonzalez.
Insight: No one on the Royals has more than 10 at-bats against Gonzalez in their career, but in a small sample size, Perez is 4-for-9 with a home run. Outfielder Norichika Aoki is 1-for-3 versus Gonzalez, however, everyone else that has faced him is hitting below .200.

Insight: Perez was 0-for-5 before the single down the third baseline that scored Christian Colon with two outs. Perez had a chance to drive in the tying run from third base in the eighth with one out and failed to deliever but came through in the 12th. Kansas City advances to face the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the ALDS.

Insight: Perez batted just .229 in August and is hitting .269 on the season after batting .292 or better in his first three seasons. He does have a career-high 16 home runs, however.

Insight: Perez underwent a MRI on his knee last week and even though manager Ned Yost downplayed the injury, the all-star catcher is just 2-for-16 since the MRI. Wednesday is a tough matchup for Perez, so his struggles may continue.

Insight: The Royals called it a "precautionary measure." We imagine all everyday catchers are dealing with knee soreness to a certain degree at this point in the season. A day or two off should do the trick.

Insight: Perez hit just .240 with just three extra-base hits in 96 at-bats last month, which sliced his OPS from .789 to .734. He's hitting .276 with 13 homers, 44 RBI, 45 runs and a .736 OPS after Tuesday's game.

Insight: Perez (.281, 7 HR, 23 RBI) left in the seventh inning with leg cramps but not before extending his hitting streak to ten games. He should be okay for Tuesday's game and in all starting lineups as he's raised his average 21 points during his hot streak.
